Benefits of joining the Monashee Trail Society

Joining MTS gives you a voice in society. Gives you a chance to be part of something that benefits this community for years and generations to come. The more members we have the bigger voice we have in decisions made by outside forces such as Developers, Lumby Village, The Community Forest, the North Okanagan Regional District to name a few. Also the bigger our membership the better chance we have of obtaining grants. Most importantly by joining MTS means you get to be part of an awesome new non-profit that is making a difference in people’s lives and this community.

These are just some of the Benefits of Joining the Monashee Trail Society:

Health Benefits for the Whole Community

Trails create healthy recreation and transportation opportunities by providing people of all ages with free access to attractive, safe, accessible places to bike, walk, hike, jog or snowshoe etc… With more health-focused initiatives in progress and more trails on the ground than ever before, the evidence is beginning to accumulate showing the extent of the positive impact trails and greenways have had on public health both mentally, socially and physically.

Preserve Our Environment

As tools for conservation, trails preserve important natural landscapes, provide needed links between fragmented habitats and offer tremendous opportunities for protecting plant and animal species as well as education opportunities for both young and old.

Bring Economic Benefits to Communities

Trails draw in tourist and that means extra dollars for local companies. Communities with large trail networks can even attract new businesses. Another spin off is that trails and green spaces increase property values. According to many home builders and real estate agents the number one amenity potential homeowners cite when they are looking at moving into a new community is a system of easily accessible trails/paths for recreation as well access to trails or paths for non-motorized forms of transportation such as bicycling and walking.
